The moment we first met wasn’t a single shared memory—it happened in two different places, at two different times. For Sab, it happened with an unexpected glance during communion sometime in July of 2022. For Jennie, it began later that summer in August when she decided to check out the Young Adult group. It’s strange how the beginning of “us” didn’t begin all at once, but slowly unfolded from separate corners of our lives until our timelines finally aligned. Sab's POV: It all began in the summer of 2022 on a Sunday morning. I was an altar server at mass as a seminarian. I had just finished receiving the Eucharist and began to pray when I happened to look up. The first person I saw was a beautiful woman, with a long dress and wearing a white veil. After seeing her my heart felt at peace. A void I thought was missing was then complete. The next month I happened to run into her again at young adult before leaving for the new semester of seminary. At this point of my discernment, I was still preparing my heart for priesthood. Fast forward to the next summer when I happened to run into her again at the young adult conference, To The Heights. It was this moment when we took a turn from acquaintances to friends. Jennie's POV: It all started with a little push from my dad, who encouraged me to check out the young adult group to meet new people. I finally gave in and went for the first time in August of 2022. That night, I met a few new faces, but one introduction stood out—Sabastine, who was at the time a seminarian. I did not return back to the group until January. When I finally did, everything started to shift. I grew close with some of the amazing new friends I had made, finding real connection and community. Even while Sab was away for the school year, he stayed present in the group chat—checking in, lifting us up in prayer, and always offering a kind word. It wasn’t until the summer of 2023 that something changed between him and me. That’s when we really got to know each other—and when a genuine friendship quietly began to form. The rest was history! Behind the scenes, Sab was going through his own season of discernment. Around December of 2023, after months of reflection and the guidance of his spiritual director, he came to a life-changing realization: he was no longer being called to the priesthood. It was a decision made with care, prayer, and peace. After running into Jennie at daily mass multiple Wednesdays in a row, Sab mustered up the courage to ask her on a date. What began as a friendship based on shared faith, ended up being a relationship build with God at the center of it. Throughout the past year, we’ve learned and grown in ways we never expected—individually and together. Through every season, we’ve kept God at the center of our relationship, trusting Him to guide our steps and shape our journey. We’ve leaned on faith during challenges, celebrated His blessings in moments of joy, and continue to seek Him as we grow closer to each other. With hearts rooted in love and a foundation built on Christ, we look forward to the future—hand in hand, trusting God with all that’s to come.
