A 21st century cliché or divine intervention? The bride and groom believe they are one of the success stories of both — meeting online and trusting in God. God had His hands on their relationship from the very beginning. On Thanksgiving day of 2024, Jordan was sick in bed on a family cruise. Something compelled her to pull out her phone and record a video where she shared with God the things she’d hope for in her future husband. After a string of disappointments, she decided to be a lot more specific in her prayers. From his taste in music to his desire to serve the poor, Jordan left no stone unturned in this list. On Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 3:19AM, Jordan and Dondre matched online. Don’t be alarmed by the time of day. Who knew an early morning truck driver and a midnight hour writer would make the perfect conversation partners at 3 o’clock in the morning? After a few messages, Jordan invited Dondre to give her a call — to which he replied, “I’d be honored.” They shared their first phone call on April 1st, 2025, after which both share that they knew that they had just encountered the one — without a shadow of a doubt. Jordan knew the moment she heard his voice. Most calls lasting well over 8 hours, the hopeful lovebirds shared hopes for community impact, love of God, and their hearts for family. Hearing Dondre describe how he was saving to give his car to his nephew, Jordan was struck by his selflessness. Dondre believed that she had the “most beautiful smile and a heart of gold” and quickly learned she was much more than that. Jordan ended calls with him always feeling uplifted. She recalls that Dondre quickly assumed the role of her protector, saying “You seem to take care of everyone else. When are you going to let someone take care of you?” And that’s where it all began. Dondre, in a sixteen wheeler heading toward the eastern coast of North Carolina every morning, was delighted to have a friend to share the highway with. Jordan was simply happy to have someone that enjoyed listening as much as she enjoyed talking. Both whose hearts were once discouraged by past hurt, quickly were warmed by the presence of one another. They were eager to meet in person, but Jordan, in her last year of seminary, was traveling often for professional conferences. But, the day finally came. Returning from a conference in Kentucky, Jordan was anxiously anticipating their first date on the plane as she landed in Raleigh. Dondre met Jordan at the airport with flowers, bubbles, a neck pillow, and a toy for her cat, Tommy. They left the airport and went straight to Frankie’s for arcade games and go-kart racing. They went to dinner and spontaneously went to the movie theatre afterwards to keep the night going — to watch a movie that was watching Jordan as she immediately fell asleep in his arms. The safest she’s ever been and the most seen he’s ever felt, Dondre and Jordan decided early on that the burden of life would be lighter together. On April 21st, 2025, Dondre asked Jordan to be his girlfriend. Three months later, the two acquired promise rings to commit their blossoming relationship to God. Shortly after that, Dondre asked Jordan’s parents for their blessing — to which they gave a resounding “yes.” Their journey involved many gas miles, as they lived about an hour from one another, but many smiles to make up for that. Jordan’s 12 hour nights as a hospital chaplain and Dondre’s 12 hour days on the road defined their first months together — lifting one another out of fatigue and stress each day. Many miles and smiles later, Dondre asked Jordan to marry him during Thanksgiving surrounded by Jordan’s family — a year after Jordan’s special prayer. To God be the glory.
