How We Met

July 7th, 2019

It was summer 2019, shortly after Lauren moved to Los Angeles, when Brett discovered Lauren's profile on a dating app. Brett commented on a picture of Lauren dressed as a pizza, Lauren replied, and it was a match! Quickly they realized they both lived in Kansas City simultaneously, ten minutes apart, and never met! Both moved away from Kansas City in May of 2015 - except Lauren moved east to Boston, and Brett went west to Los Angeles. After exchanging messages for about a month, on July 7th, 2019, they went to a Dodgers Game, each bringing a friend. Since it was a double date, they did not get to know each other as much as they hoped, so they set a second date for the following week. Their second date was on the rooftop at Hotel Shangri-La. After seeing Brett standing at the bar waiting for her, Lauren knew she immediately liked him. The two hit-it-off discussed their interests, hobbies, favorite bands as they got to know each other better that night. The following weeks led to all-day texting, a concert to see one of their favorite bands, Zac Brown, a trip down to Del Mar for horse races, seeing each other several days a week, and eventually being inseparable on weekends. That October, Lauren took Brett to her sister Jamie's wedding in St. Louis, and that's when they both told each other that they knew they were each other's person. Lauren's family even told her that weekend that Brett was the "missing piece" to the family, and the rest is history.

The Proposal

August 28th, 2021

In the spring of 2021, Brett proposed taking a cross-country road trip. Although apprehensive, Brett eventually persuaded Lauren to the idea through some convincing. What Brett left out was what he had planned for Boston. Since they started dating, they forged plans to go to Boston, a place very special to Lauren. Due to the pandemic, this was the first opportunity to go. During their previous conversations about Boston, Lauren had casually mentioned her affinity for Acorn Street. Brett took note and knew this was where he would ask for her hand in marriage. Brett did not want to give away his plans and concocted a fake email outlining “work” cocktail parties in San Francisco and Boston. The Boston “party” serendipitously occurred the same weekend they happened to be there, near Acorn street. Brett knew Lauren would want to show him the famous cobblestone street upon discovering the proximity of the fake event. Although Lauren had suspicion that a proposal may happen in Boston, she didn’t think much of the “work” cocktail party for Brett’s company. Before the event, Lauren showed Brett around Beacon Hill just as he anticipated and took Brett straight to Acorn Street because she wanted them to take some photos together. While walking down the street, Brett stopped and popped the question. Brett hired a photographer, Jess, to capture the entire moment. Brett orchestrated a surprise engagement photo shoot, then came clean that there was no work party, and they were instead meeting her friends at Pier 6 in Charlestown. After some additional photos by the water, Jess led Lauren and Brett to a private room. The minute the door opened, Lauren couldn’t believe her eyes. Brett had planned one final surprise. Both of their families traveled from various parts of the country to surprise Lauren. Brett planned the most fantastic surprise engagement party, and it was everything Lauren wanted and more!
