The date was May 1, 2020. It was an illegal nighttime beach run during COVID to watch bioluminescent waves at Hermosa Beach (video below). It was Adam's first night in Los Angeles after driving across the country from Wheaton, Illinois. Was it love at first sight? Nope. But the waves were pretty great... definitely worth getting repeatedly chased off the beach by police. https://vimeo.com/416426929
We spent the summer of 2020 becoming friends. We played volleyball regularly (Adam still thinks he's better), watched Good Will Hunting (Kaley spent the whole movie forcefully nudging Danielle closer to Adam...their legs may have touched), went to church together (Adam confessed his love for Danielle to the pastor long before he told her), played Throw Throw Burrito (tears were shed), and dressed up as Lord of the Rings characters (Danielle was Gollum... text Adam for photos). This all culminated in a massive USC vs UCLA prank war - Danielle started it, and Adam finished it. Ultimately, we decided it was more fun to be on the same team so in November 2020 we started dating.
We've had lots of highs and lows over the last two years. Some of our highlights have included jumping in a glacial lake in Alaska, reading together at the park, sharing our hearts late at night on a beach in Maui, Hawaii, rock climbing, hiking in Yosemite, shooting pistols with Danielle's dad, camping with friends in Sequoia National Park, and winter board games and puzzles with both families. We've also had our share of challenging conversations that have humbled us, grown us, and ultimately brought us closer to each other and God. We're excited for the new adventures ahead and for the new ways we expect to be stretched stepping into marriage.
