A Love Story in Ghana

10 years in the making...

We met in the summer of 2010 when Bella was visiting Ghana for the first time after moving to the U.S. Bella and her sister, Stephanie, were working at the store their mom opened selling goods. Ray worked in the area and frequented the shop. Turns out Ray was only coming back for his "empress”. "I came to the shop looking for a new mattress. I was talking with Mama Maggie about buying one when she told me she only had king sizes left. I told her that I myself am a king so it’s perfect that was all she had. That was when I heard Bella from the back of the store. She let out this laugh I never knew I needed in my life!" One evening, with the help of an elder cousin who will remain unnamed, Bella snuck out to meet with Raymond. On the stroll around the busy Ashaiman neighborhood, they were spotted by Bella's Uncle Erich. We knew better than to be sneaking around and so we hid! Isabella came back to the US and we we lost touch a few times. Thankfully, Facebook and WhatsApp allowed us to minimally stay connected. In 2017, Isabella visited Ghana again. "By this time, we hadn't been in touch for years and Raymond was not expecting me to call! In fact, he was reluctant to answer several of my calls from Ghana. Raymond visited me a few days before I was due to leave Ghana. We went for another walk and believe it or not, we ran into Uncle Erich again! This time, maturity and grace was on our side. I introduced Raymond to Uncle Erich and we continued on our walk!" Shall we say then the rest is history?
