How We Met

Mutiny Information Cafe, Denver – July 17, 2021

Becky's band, Bellhoss, had shot a music video and was hosting a release show at Mutiny on this very day. She needed someone to play music as people came in, so her bandmate Nirantha asked Miguel, her friend who had moved to Denver that year, if he could bring his records. Miguel obviously said yes. Miguel parked his truck in front of the cafe. Becky came out to help unload his records and turntables. She was wearing a lilac dress and brown, full-rimmed glasses. She flashed the most beautiful smile he had ever seen. They would soon catch each other at parties and shows both near and far: at a dusty music festival in New Mexico, at an arcade for Miguel's birthday, at the Underground Music Festival in South Broadway. On the second night of UMS, Miguel asked Becky on a date. On the third night, he asked if he could kiss her. They would wind up getting soup dumplings a few days later. A little more than a year after that dumpling date, on October 8, 2022, Miguel proposed to Becky inside the rose garden at the Denver Botanic Gardens. She said yes.
