Sean and Kim met on April 19, 2019 in Xi'an, China. Sean was there on a work trip, with intentions of returning to live, and had met Kim at a meeting. During his trip, the two hit it off and started dating shortly after.

Sean had taken Kim for a lakeside photoshoot in Pennsylvania. After taking photos all around Sean asked Kim her thoughts on setting up 3 globes at the wedding reception with heart stickers on their hometowns - Durban, South Africa and Vidalia, Georgia- as well as China, where they met. As Kim said it was a great idea, Sean pulled out a ring sticker from his pocket and asked Kim if she'd like to put the sticker on Pennsylvania and pointed. As Kim looked in the direction Sean had pointed, she saw the 3 globes set up as he'd described, and a blanket saying, "I love you more than all the stars in the sky, will you marry me?". They walked over and Sean got down one knee and asked Kim to be his wife ... and she said YES!
