Our Story

Though they grew up just a few miles apart, attending high schools in different districts, Joe and Laura's paths didn’t cross until their senior year. Both were involved in the music scene—Joe played drums in several ensembles, and Laura played viola in the MSHS orchestra, but especially enjoyed the marching band scene. While they didn’t know each other yet, they shared mutual friends, Michael and Braden, who were instrumental in eventually bringing them together. One of Joe’s most notable high school commitments was performing with the drum and bugle corps, Blue Notes. Michael and Braden, also active in music, were part of that group too. Thanks to the persuasive efforts of Michael and Braden, Laura was convinced to join the Blue Notes during the summer of 2017. That summer became something special. Alongside a tight-knit group of friends, Joe and Laura dedicated themselves to practicing and performing as members of the Blue Notes. The crew enjoyed spending time together, hiking, sharing meals, and grabbing ice cream. One evening, like many others, a message was dropped in the group chat asking if anyone was up for hanging out. Everyone was busy—except Joe and Laura. What started as a casual night under the stars turned into something neither of them expected: a quiet, easy connection that soon bloomed into love. From that night on, they were inseparable—sitting side-by-side on long bus rides, meeting each other's families, and finding any excuse to spend time together, especially under the stars. After high school, their relationship faced its biggest challenge —long distance. With Laura pursuing a nursing degree and Joe beginning his electrical lineman apprenticeship, they were never closer than 340 miles apart for four long years. But distance only deepened their connection. Joe’s road trips and unwavering effort, combined with Laura’s commitment to strong communication, kept their bond solid and growing stronger. Finally reunited and building a life together, Joe and Laura now spend their time adventuring outdoors, traveling, doting on their sweet pup Franklin, and making memories with friends and family. In the summer of 2024, Joe secretly worked with Jandron’s Jewelry in Marquette to design Laura’s dream ring—one that incorporated a meaningful family heirloom gifted by his Aunt Geri Boburka. The result was a stunning and sustainable piece Laura will treasure forever. After celebrating the wedding of Laura’s brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Hannah, in Italy, Joe and Laura stayed behind for one last evening in Florence. As the sun set over the Arno River, Joe got down on one knee. The proposal took Laura completely by surprise—especially since she had unknowingly held the ring box in her hand just days before! The two returned home with joyful hearts, and smiles they couldn’t shake, ready to begin this next chapter—together, at last.
