The Proposal

-Becca's Perspective

February 2020- We buy a house on Valentine's day! March 2020- COVID hits- all travel plans and weekends away get cancelled for the foreseeable future. July 2020- Anniversary weekend approaches, Matthew pretends to forget. July 31, 2020- A 2.5 hour ride to Portsmouth, New Hampshire turns into 3.5 hours. 4:30 pm- Matthew is super upset with all of the traffic- I roll my eyes. I am not ready to be going anywhere. 6:00 pm- Matthew states we should go take a walk on the beach in Rye, New Hampshire (arguably my favorite place in the world). 6:20 pm- Matthew points to odd item in the water and gets down on one knee. I forget to actually say the word "yes" but do proceed to cry and hug Matthew, as well as dance around the beach. I immediately am freaked out by man about 20 feet away taking pictures. 6:25- It is fine because it's Ryan, Matt's brother, and he not only took the MOST AMAZING photos but also celebrated with us and brought the champagne.

The Proposal

Matthew's Perspective

Morning of July 31, 2020: Average day starting off with a workout before heading off on our weekend getaway. Becca was stuck working a half day and I was out playing golf to keep me from freaking out. A suppose to be 2.5 hour car ride turned into 3.5 hours, which did not go over well knowing that my brother/best man (Ryan) was sitting on the beach waiting for us with no cell service. When we finally arrived at the hotel, Becca decided to take her SWEET time getting ready (3 hours from when I told Ryan when we would be walking on the beach). We start walking and am secretly dying on the inside because the ring box is noticeable in every pocket. I finally see Ryan, however, he was in the water because he had no idea what time we were getting to the beach. As we are approaching his beach site, I see him starting to sprint up to his towel. Becca still has no idea at this point. I see Ryan throw himself down on his towel, we walk by him and I give him "the nod" to let him know it's about to go down. As I get down on one knee, Becca quickly realizes what is going on and the first phrase was "Oh my god." She never said yes initially, but instead was worried about the creepy guy (Ryan) in the background taking pictures. We celebrated with the beach goers around us and a bottle of champagne.
