How It All Started

We know, we know. You all saw it coming.

Grant and Becca met at work, although Grant doesn't remember the first meeting. Becca was producing the midday show and Grant was the new reporter. For years, their friends in the newsroom made eyes and jokes about the inevitable wedding. So, if you made money on that bet, congratulations. There were lunches and nights out with friends, but there was never a time when one of us was single until February 2017. Becca had been single for a few weeks. For Grant... it was four days. But the heart wants what it wants. After a particularly tough day, full of breaking news forcing them to work closely together, they decided to get drinks after the show. And the rest is history.

The Proposal

12.6.19

The diamond and ring had been bought. Knowing there was a move in their future, Grant went to B.C. Clark so Becca could always have a little Oklahoma with her. (You're welcome for the jingle now stuck in your head) Originally, he wanted to propose on Becca's 27th birthday. But that came and went and and the ring wasn't ready. He thought about flying to New York to surprise her while she cheered in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but the flight just wasn't in the cards. So, the ring sat hidden in his closet for months under a pile of mismatched socks until Becca left for NYC. For weeks he planned with friends to make the set up just right. Eventually he settled on December 6th, a starry (and cold) Friday night. Grant told Becca they were going to an engagement party for a co-worker at a restaurant across from the newly-opened Scissortail Park in Oklahoma City. Before going to the party, they planned to swing by a stargazing event in the park. Becca had no idea neither of those things were happening that night. Instead Grant took Becca to the park's boathouse where he and friends had strung twinkle lights earlier in the day. On a lone table sat a poster. A map of the night sky frozen in time for that exact night that read "Will you marry me?" Becca was nervous for a moment, thinking she may have highjacked someone else's special proposal. Thankfully she was wrong. When Becca turned around, Grant was on one knee. Despite being in complete shock, she squealed "Yes!" And, don't worry, the engagement party for the co-worker was actually a party for the future Hermes.

Thank You

We just wanted to thank our family and friends for helping to make this day so special. Our parents, Ron and Sanny Hermes and Joel and Kara Dawn Slaughter for their love, support and generosity. Our wedding party for agreeing to stand awkwardly next to us while we kiss in front of a crowd. A special thanks to Arty Cardenas, who said yes to performing the ceremony. It means the world to us. To all of our friends and family who have showed us so much kindness as individuals and as a couple. We know we can never repay you, but we'll try our best.
