If you asked a younger Emily what she wanted to do in life, more than anything she would answer: be a teacher and travel the world. If you asked a younger Greg if he also would like to do that, he’d probably laugh in your face. Yet our journey began just as that, two teachers living abroad. In a small, homey village south of Prague called Tynec nad Sazavou, Emily and Greg met for the first time. Greg had previously lived in the neighboring town, Porici nad Sazavou, for two years, while Emily, an already veteran traveler, had just arrived in the Czech Republic. After many nagging texts and emails from Greg’s employers to welcome the new Americans, Greg finally agreed to send an email. Greg and Emily met at Cafe Pribeh right along the Sazava river and sat down to more formal introductions. Greg and Emily began teaching at the “Get Ready” after school program. While at first sharing pleasantries and covering each other's classes while the other was busy, eventually a friendship started to bloom. Greg and Emily started to grab dinner after teaching and one day Greg finally worked up the courage and asked if Emily would like to “hangout” in Tynec. Tynec being the bustling village that it was, had approximately two things open at night: the cafe and a three lane bowling alley. Emily and Greg chose the bowling alley and to their delight they discovered a new sport that they have sought out since first discovering it on that fateful night: foot pool! Greg being the gentleman he is, allowed Emily to win and soon after that night, the dinners turned to dates. Emily and Greg discussed their summer plans and what they were going to do once they moved back home. This was in early March 2020 (I’ll save you what happened next). Emily and Greg both decided that they would stay for one more year and endure whatever came their way. After about five school closings, four full on shutdowns, three cancelled trips, two covid cases, and a partridge and a pear tree, Emily and Greg decided to return to the USA to be closer to their families. Emily and Greg have traveled to forty countries together. However, after five years abroad for Greg and three years for Emily, they decided on one of their most ambitious adventures yet: to find a home in Massachusetts. They quickly got on the task of applying for jobs and as Greg sent out around 15 applications and Emily sent out around 250 applications, they found their new home on the peninsula of Cape Cod. Finally on November 2nd, 2024, as Emily strolled along the beach admiring the seaweed, and the sun poking out of the clouds, she turned around to find Greg down on one knee. While Emily initially felt quite the shock, Emily said “yes” and the wedding bells are now a reality.
