Our Love Story

Mitch and I met on Facebook, out of all places, in September of 2020. We bonded over our love of farming and like-minded thinking for several months before we had our first date in January of 2021. I remember that day as if it was yesterday and how nervous I was to meet him for the very first time. I had nervously scrubbed my entire house from top to bottom. The scent of Pine-sol was overwhelmingly pungent in the air. I was anxiously pacing the sparkling clean floor when I heard a knock at the door... He opens the door and I immediately give a shy of relief - thank goodness, it's actually him! He's tall and handsome, just how I imagined him. I greeted him with a big hug and he pulls me in and says, "Are you ready for your last, first date?" We laughed and I replied, "Absolutely." The evening was something out of a classic rom-com movie. We went to dinner at a fantastic place I had never been to where we laughed and shared more stories until they kicked us out. Then we stayed up late just talking some more until we both couldn't keep our eyes open. In the morning, I made breakfast and Mitch grabbed his electrical tools to work on my kitchen light which needed the ballast replaced. I'll never forget sitting on the kitchen counter with my coffee in hand, passing him tools as he worked away and having complete admiration for him. I had grown so accustomed to fixing and taking care of things myself for a long time. It was nice to know that chivalry was not dead after all. Ever since that day we had grown to love and appreciate each other more and more. We'd spend wonderful weekends together, each of us driving from Des Moines and Cedar Rapids whenever we could. Often we’d get teary eyed whenever we had to say good-bye. Soon we realized that we wanted to take the next step in our lives and in September of 2022, I quit my job in Des Moines and moved into Mitch’s house in Cedar Rapids. I’m sure my family thought I was crazy and even I couldn’t believe what I was doing. Never in my life did I ever think I was going to literally uproot myself for a man but here I was, jumping off of what felt like a huge cliff and diving head first into the unknown. But somehow we both knew we found something special in each other. Each of us reassuring the other that no matter what life throws at us, we'll still have each other. “It’s us against the world, babe.” Fast forward to October 2023, where we dined at our restaurant we had our very first date at. We spend the evening enjoying terrific food, wine and talking about our future - laughing and crying. Then as we were leaving the restaurant and began walking to the car, he tugs on my hand and proceeds to knell down to ask the big question. And of course, with tears of joy in my eyes... I said YES! And the rest is history as they say... A true fairytale coming to fruition for the both of us. We are so excited to share our special day with friends and family. We look forward to sharing the next chapter of our love story with you! ~Lindsay & Mitch
