In the Fall of 2011 at Northeastern University, Joe and Beatrice met in the most typical college fashion before Tinder existed - at a party that Joe’s fraternity was having. It was close to the end of the night and the party was winding down when Beatrice noticed Joe sitting next to her. Joe used his “classic strategy of silence”, which intrigued Beatrice. She ended up talking to Joe first who ended up disappointing her since he checked off 2 of her red flags immediately: younger and in a fraternity. They chatted for the rest of the night until her friends wanted to head home. Joe asked for her phone number that night. From there, they started a friendship and so began Joe’s uphill battle of getting out of the friend zone. After three months of casual lunch dates, Joe made his way to Beatrice’s heart and they started dating.
