Things To Do

Below are some of our favorite places that we recommend in DC. There's a lot to see and many of the attractions are free. You can't go wrong with a Smithsonian museum, exploring the monuments, especially the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, or walking around the National Mall and Capitol grounds.

Library of Congress

101 Independence Avenue Southeast, Washington, DC 20540

One of our favorite places to visit in DC!

National Gallery of Art

Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20565

A favorite of ours, especially the Impressionist wing!

National Portrait Gallery

8th St NW & F St NW, Washington, DC 20001

Another favorite of ours. It's connected to the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

National Archives Museum

701 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20408
, (202) 357-5000

See the Declaration of Independence and the Emancipation Proclamation in person.

Constitution Gardens

Constitution Ave NW & 19th St NW, Washington, DC 20004

A (usually) quiet park with great views of the Washington Monument.

Eastern Market

225 7th St SE, Washington, DC 20003

A 130-year-old market with prepared food, local produce, handmade arts & crafts, etc. The Market Lunch serves great crab cakes. The area is nice to walk around, particularly 8th Street SE (Barracks Row)

U.S. Botanic Garden

100 Maryland Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC 20001

Zen place near the Library of Congress and U.S. Capitol.

Dupont Circle

1 Dupont Circle NW, Washington, DC 20036

Take a break by the fountain in the middle of the Circle, walk around Embassy Row to admire the architecture, browse at Kramerbooks, or check out The Phillips Collection (the country's first modern art museum).

Dumbarton Oaks Park

R Street NW and Lover's Lane, Washington, DC 20007

A park with nice trails. Enter via Lover's Lane from R Street NW. The park differs from Dumbarton Oaks Gardens, which has a entrance fee.

Logan Circle

Washington, DC

Cool area to wander around. The Circle itself is a nice place to relax.
