Baylee's Perspective- How We Met

October 26, 2016

I was managing at Pecan Lodge when I saw Doug for the first time. He was in uniform and looked extremely handsome (I remember seeing him outside the window and mentioning to one of my co-workers how cute I thought he was). At 11:00am I opened the door and said "good morning", he looked at me and said nothing... So, I continued greeting the rest of the crowd. A couple of minutes later, one of the cashiers asked me if I could authorize a firefighter discount. I walked over to see Doug standing at the register. He thanked me and walked over to an open table with his friend. I was overlooking the restaurant and couldn't help but stare at Doug. He was SO handsome! We kept catching each others eye and smiling. After Doug finished eating, he started walking straight to me. He introduced himself and thanked me for the discount. I responded with, "No worries. We do that for all firefighters". We engaged in some small talk and flirty banter (he was quite the smooth talker). After a couple minutes of conversation, he reached in his pocket and pulled out his receipt with his name and number written on it. He started stumbling over his words and got real nervous (definitely less smooth). He managed to hand me his receipt and told me to call him sometime. I was so excited, I told everyone I was working with what happened! After I got off work, I texted him saying how it was nice meeting him (trying to be cool and casual). About a week later, he took me out on our first date. We have been together ever since!

Doug's Perspective- How We Met

October 26, 2016

I was employed by the Desoto Fire Department and had just began paramedic school in downtown Dallas. My co-worker told me that we should try a BBQ place for lunch called Pecan Lodge, which I had never heard of (being the Fort Worth boy that I am). We arrived 30 minutes early and were the first ones in line. At 11:00am the doors were unlocked and opened by this gorgeous woman saying hello to everyone as we came in. Of course I was star struck and awkwardly said nothing as I passed her. My friend and I spoke about how pretty she was as we went to order. After I ordered my food, the cashier said he had to get his manager to approve a discount since we were in our fire department uniforms. The person who came to the register was none other than the angel who welcomed me at the front door. I thanked her for the discount and she quickly told me that they give all police and fire members discounts (so I shouldn’t feel special). My friend and I were sitting down eating when I began catching this manager staring at me. I told my buddy about the looks and he said very confidently, “Spark it up, bro!” That was all the encouragement I needed! I wrote my name and number on the back of my receipt, gave my friend the car key and told him I would meet him there. I walked up to Baylee and thanked her for the discount and we started chatting a little as I was looking for the right time to give her my number. Things were going very smoothly until the very end when I began stumbling over my words. I awkwardly handed her the receipt, told her she could text me if she wanted, and quickly walked away. Knowing that I had totally blown it, I was confident that I would never be hearing from her because she was way out of my league. We finished our class day and as I was walking to my car I received a friendly text from Baylee. I was stunned, and we began texting casually for about a week until I asked her to go on a date with me. We have been madly in love ever since!
