Volcán Ilamtepec

Volcán Ilamtepec

Lomas de San Marcelino, Santa Ana, El Salvador

Volcán Ilamatepec is the highest volcano in the country. The hiking tour takes approximately 3-4 hours and is a 4.3-mile out-and-back trail. Generally considered a challenging route, you will be hiking up most of the time on the way to the crater. We’d recommend you consider joining a guided tour or hiring transportation there from wherever you are. We posted the website of a high rated tour, $85 per person. Since the access to trail is in the Cerro Verde National Park, there is an entrance fee: 6 USD per person for foreigners, 3 USD per person for nationals/residents

Coffee tour at El Carmen Estate

Coffee tour at El Carmen Estate

Ataco, El Salvador

El Salvador is known for producing high-quality coffee beans thanks to its rich volcanic soil at high altitudes, so a coffee tour is a MUST. This coffee processing mill was started in 1930 and still produces some of the area’s best coffee today. Their basic tour is just $7 and runs for 1 hour and 15 minutes. A guide will show you around the mill and explain how the coffee goes from cherries to beans ready for export. For coffee aficionados, they have a lengthier tour that dives deeper into the coffee-making process. It is $25, runs for about 3 hours, and includes lunch.

Also known as Surf City. This small surf town on the coast is undoubtedly El Salvador’s most popular tourist destination. For our non-surfer friends, there is Nawi Beach house or Atami Escape Resort where you can stay the night or just buy a day pass to relax at the pool, bar, and beach.

El Zonte
