Our journey

How We Met

Shoutout mom!

Uzezi’s version I was introduced to Basil by his mom in 2018 who attended the same church as me while I was in Nigeria. She reached out to me one fateful Sunday and began inquiring about my life. It was so awkward as I wasn’t so sure what she was up to, but I suspected she was about to link me up with someone – typical of most African parents LOL! I gave her my contact information and about a month later Basil called me on WhatsApp. After the introductions and getting to know one another on the first call, we didn’t talk till about a week later. We were long distance for over two years face timing each other every single day! Of course, there were times I yearned for his physical presence, but I felt our spirits were always together. We were finally together in January 2021 when I came to the United States for grad school. We got engaged on the 12th of May, last year at the Boston Common. Basil is an amazing man with a heart for Jesus and the younger generation. I am drawn to his kind heart and cheerful spirit, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him. Basil’s version Uzezi and I first met on the phone three years ago. Our first call was about half an hour, after which we were interested in talking again. I anxiously waited a week to call again not wanting to rush things. In case you’re wondering how I got her phone number; well, my mom was the link. Shoutout mom! At this time, she was living in Nigeria, and I lived in America, so we talked every day for the next two years and didn’t miss a single day. We fell in love with each other on the phone and I was very content with what we had. Finally, she got a Ph.D. position in America and moved to Boston. The first time we met at the airport was awkward. We thought it was going to be a typical romanticized expectation you see on TV. It was just awkward! Although we knew each other because we shared everything about who we were on the phone, it was still weird being in the same space. It took a few days, but we finally made a connection and of course, the emotions followed. Being in the same country was a huge answer to prayer and I didn’t want to waste any more time not being her husband, so I asked her to marry me at the Boston Public Garden. Her response was “yes, I’d marry you just get up” so either she wants to marry me, or she was so embarrassed by the crowd and said yes and now got to follow through LOL.
