How We Met

Like all great modern love stories, ours started with a swipe...

...on Bumble! Elizabeth started the conversation in January 2022 with iconic lyrics from Taylor Swift "Hey Stephen I could give you 50 reasons why I should be the one you choose. All those other girls, well they're beautiful but would they write (erm, rip-off a Taylor Swift song) song for you." Stephen wasn't much of a Swiftie yet and was impressed he remembered that song since he hadn't heard it in years. They kept the conversation going chatting about Lake Superior and Lake Tahoe before deciding to meet up for their first date.

Our First Date

No reservation? No problem!

On February 5, 2022 we met at Wakame Sushi in Minneapolis for dinner. Neither of us had been there before so we didn't realize how busy it would be on a Saturday night - now, we highly recommend reservations! Since it was about a 45-60 minute wait for a table, we decided to grab some drinks at the bar. With no bar seats available the only place for us to sit and wait was in the coat closet, so that's exactly where we sat and had our first conversation. From the coat closet to our first meal together at the sushi bar, conversation flowed naturally and neither of us could stop smiling. Needless to say, it was a great first date!

The Proposal

It was perfect.

On a very rainy Monday, our 2.5 year anniversary, we went to dinner at Wakame (this time with reservations). After sharing a bottle of wine, a couple sushi rolls, and a few reminiscing stories of our first date, we braved the rain back to the car. We decided to take a different way home due to the storm and road construction, conveniently close to Lake Harriet. Stephen drove us to the Lake Harriet Bandshell and convinced Elizabeth to take a walk (even though it was very much still raining). Inside the bandshell, Stephen had arranged for our friend Mya to set up a lovely spot with a blanket, bottle of bubbles, photos, and a ukulele. Stephen played a song special to us before getting down on one knee. Of course, Elizabeth said yes!
