During John's first day of tenth grade, he laid eyes on the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in Ms. Heimbecker's second-period keyboarding class. But maybe it wasn't meant to be. Rachel would drop the class later that day. John wouldn't ask Rachel on a date for another 4 years. Rachel worked her way up the ladder at her Owego Public Works summer lifeguarding job, moving from lifeguard to manager. Despite working together for several summers in a row, Rachel wasn't able to leverage her power as John's boss into a relationship. This period was deemed the "Supper Club" by astute observers, a time when John and Rachel would go on dates with each other but never made anything official. One day John did try, and Rachel said not yet. Both were confused after that answer. John didn't talk to Rachel for a couple of months after that, until he accidentally sat next to her in Physics II. "It was the only seat open," John said. Rachel was also suffering from long mononucleosis during this time. "You look like you're dying," John said. This semester caused them to rekindle their relationship. COVID-19 changed lots of things about our world, and this relationship was one of them. Some people are saying John flirts with the spectrum, and this was never more apparent than in the Summer of 2020 after Rachel told John she wanted to date him, and John didn't talk about it for two weeks. But soon, the two had learned how to express themselves, and they were dating in a couple of months. Happily ever after.
