His Story I remember the year I met Dawn — 1987 like yesterday. I was driving my trusty 1984 Buick Regal with its blue-and-grey seats, taking a different route home when I turned onto William Street in East Orange. That’s when I saw her: a beautiful young woman in a jogging suit. I rolled down the window and offered her a ride. She hesitated and said she didn’t know me. With a smile, I replied, “I don’t know you either.” We both laughed, and I drove her home — not realizing that moment would change my life forever. As fate would have it, I drove past Main Street by the ShopRite Plaza days later and saw her again, standing in the doorway of the laundromat. I called out, “Dawn, is that you?” She answered, “Barry, is that you?” From that day forward, our story began. Thirty years have passed, and she’s still the love of my life — a reminder that love often appears in the most unexpected places. It amazes me how God can bring two people together. I love Dawn with all my heart. If giving my life so she can live is what it would take, I would do it without hesitation. Her Story Barry and I met in the early 80s, and it was truly divine. He was undoubtedly the “chocolate bar” that swept me off my feet. I tried to play hard to get, but he won me over with his kindness and compassion. He had a car and a job, which showed me his responsibility and dedication. I never imagined I would marry this stranger, but he caught my eye and became my forever journey. Over the years, we’ve faced challenges together — storms, sickness, heartache, and loss — yet one thing has always remained: my love for this man. Through it all, Barry has been by my side with unwavering support and love. He is a God-fearing man who has cared for me and our children with kindness, strength, and compassion. He’s funny, straightforward, and loving, yet unshakeable in his faith and devotion to God. I once prayed for a Bible-believing partner with benefits, no children, and a loving heart — and God gave me more than I could ever ask for. He made Barry Bobien specifically for me, and for that I am forever thankful. I love this man with all my heart and soul.
