We met in our freshman year of high school. We shared an art class. We instantly became best friends. We were basically inseparable. Finally, May 17, 2012 Barrett asked me to be his girlfriend. Naturally, I said yes. We continued to talk and our relationship continued to grow and deepen. The summer going into our junior year of high school, Barrett transferred schools. We were both a little nervous about what this meant for our relationship, but determined to make it work. Though we had much less time to see each other, we made each moment count. College was another huge change for our relationship. But once again, it only brought us closer together. Skip forward to June 20, 2018 when Barrett and I went camping. It had been pouring rain all day, but Barrett and I wanted to see if we could do it anyway. While we were sitting in a hammock under a tarp talking, waiting for the rain to slow a little, Barrett suggested that I get started on breaking sticks down to start the fire. As I was doing that Barrett was looking in his bag for the flint and steel (or so I thought.) I turned around to say something and I saw he was on one knee with a small black box in his hands. “Hey Zoë, wanna get married?” He asked me. “YES YES YES” I said. I couldn’t stop saying it. I started to cry. We hugged. Talked a little bit about our plans. And here we are planning a wedding and excited that you are wanting to celebrate this huge step in our relationship!
