Barrett and Lena officially met in a group project during their Communication Theories class. A classmate, Brooke, brought them into the same group and then completely ditched them to join another group. Thanks, Brooke! Barrett and Lena figured they might as well stay in the group. At the library, the masks came off (this was during Covid), and the conversation started flowing. Lena liked Barrett’s confidence and playfulness. Barrett liked Lena’s amazingly beautiful face, wit, and personality (can you tell it’s me, Lena, writing this?) Though the project was not difficult, Barrett and Lena often made their group members meet at the library to “work on the project.” Truly, they just wanted to spend more time together. Worlds collided when they realized Lena’s best friend, Liz, and Barrett’s best friend, Hunter, were also talking to each other. We are happy to report that they, too, are engaged! Because of their shared major, they had the opportunity to take many more classes together and continue getting to know one another. Barrett saw Lena’s vulnerable side as she practiced her speeches for Advanced Public Speaking. Lena saw Barrett’s vulnerable side as he studied for Math: Problem Solving. Barrett and Lena both enjoyed watching movies together as homework for The Impact of Film on Society. Friends and Family met. Barrett asked Lena to be his girlfriend. Now, they have been dating for 4 years. They have done more than two years of long-distance and have been through a 9-month deployment - they are ready to start their lives together! We thank you for reading our story and being a part of making us who we are. At this moment, they do not know where they will live after they are married.
