Dalton and I attended preschool together at First Babtist Church in Garner, NC. After seperating for elementary and middle school, we both happened to attend West Johnston High School. Freashman year of high school Dalton and I were in the same health and P.E. class. Dalton went home one day and mentioned to his mom that he had a girl in his class names Barrett Wall, and expressed his excitement about her. Interested Daltons mother, Dawn List recognized my name from preschool. Dalton asked me what preschool I went to to see if i was the girl from preschool. I asked my mother, Georgie Wall, and mommas love for pictures and scrapbooking paid off. She looked back at pictures and sure enough she found pictures of Dalton and I in preschool. This sparked interest from the both of us and the rest is history.
Just like every typical teenage high school relationship, Dalton asked me to be his girfriend after hanging out at my house after school one day. Little did I know this day was the start of the most amazing years of my life.
In the mitts of all of the excitement of graduating from East Carolina University, Dalton and I decided to go out to dinner just the two of us to celabrate. Earlier that day Dalton was given his graduation hard hat that he would later wear during his graduation. This ceromony is a big deal for for all construction management majors. Dalton told me he made dinner reservations at a nice stake house in Little Washington, NC. When we arrived at the docks, Dalton said we were early for our reservations and asked to go for a walk. Me being me asked if we could drive over the bridge first. Why? I dont really know. I just wanted to do it. Dalton denied my request and I all sassy like replied by saying, “fine, what Dalton wants to do we’ll do”. (I later appologized for my behavior) While walking Dalton and I conveniently ran into his friend Bradley Strickland who was taking pictures for his “Oceanography class”. Bradley asked if he could take our picture infront of the water. Dalton shook his head no and said “nah man I think were fine”, knowing i would then say “shoot you might not want your picture taken but I need mine taken”. The night was going exactly how Dalton planned it, because im apperently that predictable. Bradley took a couple pictures and let me see them then asked if he could take a few more just for fun. Dalton then turned, grabbed my hands and started saying alot of really sweet things. Again, me being me didn’t believe it was really happening. Dalton had previously tricked me so many times that I referred to him as the boy who cried ring. While Dalton was being super sweet I kept looking back and forth between Dalton and Bradley asking if this was real, saying this isn’t real, and said “this is a really bad time to fake me out Dalton List”. Frustrated Dalton looked at me straight in the eyes and said, “Barrett, shut up and listen to what im saying” and pulled out the ring box from his pocket. It was the most amazing and joyful moment of my life.
This is the day we say “I do”! I cant wait for this day, and to spend it with all of the people we love!
