Downtown Boone is a lovely walk. You might like to check out Mast General Store, Foggy Pine Bookstore, Turchin Center for the Arts, and many other shops and restaurants. Along the street, just to the south, is the beautiful campus of Appalachian State University.
We’ve enjoyed visiting the breweries in the area, which include Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Booneshine, Lost Province, Blowing Rock Brewery, and Boondocks.
There is so much gorgeous hiking in the area. Check out Moses Cone, Grandfather Mountain, Rough Ridge, the Cascades Trail, Mt. Jefferson, and Grayson Highlands.
This tiny town still displays the old train cars from its heyday before the Great Depression. Visitors can enjoy the Todd Mercantile Store and kayak down the New River, if you know the right people.
Tweetsie Railroad is Watauga County’s iconic, family-friendly theme park. Among the variety of rides, shops, and eateries, the main attraction is the train ride around the mountain and the adventure back in time awaiting any pioneer who steps aboard. Nearby Banner Elk, NC, is home to the new “Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster” which we are anxious to visit. We’ve had fun at the Escape Room in Boone, and there’s one in West Jefferson as well.
