On a late chilly Monday in February 2020, while swiping carelessly through Tinder. Nicolette came across Joshua's profile, He had thrown her a "super like". His pictures weren't close-ups but he looked decent and there were some cute kids, so she figured he must at least like kids. So she swiped right and they matched. Joshua messaged first with some line about how the name Nicolette was beautiful and then one message later said he didn't want to waste any more time on this terrible app and sent his phone number. Joshua didn't have high hopes, as he said "if you want to text me if not, that's cool too." His forwardness intrigued Nicolette, so she instantly texted him and they set a date for the very next day...
Following a late night of texting, Joshua and Nicolette met at Gringos & Mariachis. Joshua had made a big deal the previous night of telling Nicolette he was "short" and he hoped it wasn't a deal-breaker. So if you know Nicolette, obviously she showed up to their first date in 5-inch heels. Clearly, this sassiness quickly won him over. Nicolette ordered duck tacos and Joshua ordered duck nachos. Though Joshua was very iffy about eating duck for the first time, how could he say no to his beautiful date. Dinner was splendid, and they had such a great time they decided to extend the date by going to Tommy Joe's for drinks and ice cream. Here they talked and joked for hours while feeding each other ice cream off a single spoon. Nicolette thought this was romantic, but months later Joshua would confess he has a weird thing about sharing spoons with anyone. He was grossed out the whole time! Eventually the night had to end and Joshua walked Nicolette to her car. Her heels must of given her extra confidence because she made the first move for the first kiss, thankfully he accepted.
Just four days after the 1st date, Joshua and Nicolette attended a sensory-friendly children's play at the Kennedy Center. Nicolette had to attend for a grad class and Joshua was a trooper when they received weird looks for being the only childless adults there. Then Joshua wanted to share his favorite chicken sandwich from Roaming Rooster with her, so to lunch, they went. Here Nicolette beat Joshua in finishing the sandwich first, and this is when he said he knew she could be the one. So Cliche. And once again they couldn't get enough of each other so they extended the date to Palladar's. Here is where they realized this could definitely be something. They talked for hours. Joshua was living in a bachelor pad with a blow up mattress and no furniture. He said he would give Nicolette a budget and she could decorate and furnish it. Score! But...Joshua said one thing must stay. A print of a bear on rollerskates he had hanging. Nicolette appreciated that this man was into weird art and ran with that. Nicolette joked one day they would have a house and the walls leading up the stairs would be a gallery filled with different animals on rollerskates. {spoiler alert, it only took 8 months for this to come true}.
The third and final before COVID. The following weekend, Nicolette and Joshua went furniture shopping. Following this Joshua wined and dined her by cooking dinner. She was impressed and it sealed the deal. Who doesn't love a man who can cook? Unfortunately, this would be the last "date" for months because Just 6 days later the world shut down.
Luckily, by the third date, they were already crazy about each other. Panic set in though when VA and MD borders began to shut down. Since Nicolette was no longer commuting to work, she figured, why not move to VA?! She asked Joshua if she could bring her stuff over and he said sure! Not knowing this was the end of his era of living alone FOREVER. Luckily, it all worked out perfectly, and they got along great. At one point Joshua said, "if we can spend two weeks quarantined together 24/7 and not kill each other, we can probably spend forever together." So 2 months in, they started planning a wedding in secret. Because obviously any outside source would tell them they were crazy, but they were perfectly crazy together. 7 months in Joshua proposed, just to make it official, and after a 47-day engagement. They eloped! By 8 months in, they were married, bought a house, had three dogs together, and lived happily ever after. But with all that being said and done, they still want to celebrate with you! So they are taking on the new task of planning a "Big wedding".
