Travel Note

What is the nearest airport?

We recommend flying into Lisbon Airport (LIS), which is the closest international airport. From there, Torres Vedras is approximately a 45-60 minute drive north.

Travel Note

What's the weather like in early May?

May is one of the most beautiful times to visit Portugal! Expect warm, sunny days with temperatures typically ranging from 65–75°F during the day, cooling to around 58–62°F in the evenings. There can be occasional light rain, but May is generally much drier than the winter months.

Travel Note

Do I need a visa or documentation to travel to Portugal?

US citizens do not currently need a visa to visit Portugal for stays under 90 days. You'll need a valid US passport with at least six months of validity beyond your travel dates. Note: ETIAS (travel documentation) may be in effect by May 2027, and if so, would be required for all travelers. This can be completed online in just a few minutes.

What about driving in Portugal?

Your US driver's license is valid in Portugal. If you're interested, you can pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a precaution - they're inexpensive and easy to get through AAA.
