As classmates, project teammates, and fellow band members, A and E had a solid friendship in high school. However, departing to different universities put a pause on their connection. Fast forward to different graduate programs through OU, E in Norman and A in Tulsa, they reconnected in early spring of 2017. After attending multiple events together as friends, a friendship blossomed into much more. They began dating in September of that year. During a weekend trip to Tulsa to see A, E could no longer contain his feelings. He professed his love during a snack break at Sonic (It’s the most romantic spot). Thankfully, whilst dining on cheese curds and tea, A responded with the same amorous words. Love continued to develop through weekend trips to visit each other, nightly videochat sessions, and many bouts of laughter.
A general concept of a proposal in October was made aware to A, but the specific date was a mystery. Due to A's sense of curiosity, E was brilliant and created a diversion of a reservation at a fondue restaurant for the 14th to trick A. On October 13th, A & E left to attend church with E's family. However, they left too early and E suggested a walk at a nature park to fill the time. While at this beautiful nature center, E found a random passerby to take a picture of them. E asked the kind gentleman to continue to take pictures as he reached into his jacket. E pulled out a ring box and got onto one knee, saying that they had started their journey together in nature and that he wanted to keep it in nature, then asked for A to marry him. A, after a momentary “oh shoot” upon seeing the glory of the ring, ecstatically said “yes.” Rather than going to church, they went to a "surprise" dinner with some family and friends. Don’t worry, they celebrated at the fondue restaurant the following night because the decoy reservation was, in fact, real.
