Bicentennial Bridge

The 12-foot-wide pedestrian/bicycle bridge connects the Missouri State Capitol Complex to the 30-acre parkland located north of the Union Pacific Railroad. The Bicentennial Bridge spans the railroad and slope gently down to meet the existing ground elevation at Deborah Cooper Park on Adrian’s Island. The slope of the trail and bridge meets ADA standards, enabling all users full access to enjoy the riverfront. Deborah Cooper Park provides a unique and memorable experience for Jefferson City area residents and visitors. The 32-acre property has plenty of room to explore, and five of those acres encompass several amenities: Paved paths and nature trails Public Art Hammocks Life-size chessboard 30’X50’ outdoor shelter with picnic tables Privy restroom Various park benches and viewing areas

Carnahan Memorial Garden

A striking complement to the Capitol Complex, the Garden, located next to the Governor's Mansion, was constructed in the late 1930s. The site is filled with flowers, pools, and walkways. After the death of Governor Carnahan, the Garden was renamed as a memorial to his work. Free admission/Public outdoor attraction.

For a refreshing break any time, stop in at Central Dairy for legendary ice cream treats. This ice cream shop is an excellent stop any time of year and is known as a longtime favorite of locals and many others throughout the Midwest. Open Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm; Sunday, 10am-6pm.

Missouri State Museum

The Missouri State Museum is located on the first floor of the Missouri State Capitol Building and is managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The museum continues to showcase Missouri's diverse history and resources. The museum houses both temporary and long-term exhibits, such as exhibits for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. One of the highlights of the museum's collections is a significant and rare group of over 125 Civil War battle flags. Many of the flags belonged to, or were captured by, Missouri units on both sides of the war. At least one flag is on display at all times in the museum. Missouri was one of the most divided states during the Civil War and the Missouri State Museum exhibits tell this story. The museum is open seven days a week, from 8 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday and 9 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Free admission. Closed New Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Missouri Veterinary Medical Museum

The first museum in the United States dedicated solely to veterinary medicine, its mission is to preserve the history of veterinary medicine by providing a museum, library and educational center. It also promotes the image of veterinary medicine to the public. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am - 4 pm. Free admission.

Runge Nature Center

Enjoy the natural wonders of Missouri and the fish, forests and wildlife found here by strolling through exhibits or hiking nature center trails. Inside the center you will find an indoor wildlife viewing area, a nature library and a small gift shop. You can also explore more than 3,000 square feet of exhibits that lead you through a myriad of Missouri's natural habitats. Featured in the exhibit area are a 3,580 gallon fish aquarium, live amphibians and reptiles, hands-on activites for children and much more. Venture outside to explore over two miles of hiking trails. You can also climb a 60 ft firetower for a panoramic view of the city and the area's dramatically rolling landscape. The Naturescape Trail is accessible to people with disabilities. Self-guided tours available; advance notice is required for naturalist-led programs. The center is open year round, Tuesday-Saturday 8am-5pm, Thursdays until 8pm. The trails are open daily from 6am-9pm. Free admission.
