When Baris moved to the U.S., he was searching for a Latin dance partner. A mutual friend suggested Denise, so he reached out over Facebook. Denise politely declined—he lived too far away, and without a car, it just didn’t seem practical. Life went on, and soon they both had partners of their own, even competing against each other at local competitions. But when Baris’s partner moved out of the country, he tried asking Denise again. Once more, she said no—she already had a partner. A few months later, the tables turned.
