How We Met

February 28, 2015

Justin and I always joke about how we fell in love in a hopeless place, working at a place we all know and love to shop… Target! I worked in the clothing department and he worked everywhere else in the store. We crossed paths or shifts many times at work but never knew who each other was. About 5 months after I started working at Target, a mutual coworker had introduced us. I texted her one day saying, “Hey your friend is cute!" While Justin was playing basketball, he got a text from our mutual coworker telling him that he should text me. Luckily, he decided to text me that same day, “Hey this is Justin from Target” (referencing Alex from Target). Of course, I was super excited how quickly I got that text and how quickly the conversation took off. A few weeks later, we hung outside of work for the first time on February 28, 2015, and our friendship took off like a rocket. We became inseparable and so did my feelings for him. We were best friends that were in love with one another for the first 8 months of knowing each other. Justin was everything I never knew I needed…and more. On December 4, 2015, Justin asked me to be his girlfriend in one of the parking garages at Rio. With no hesitation, I said “yes!" Falling in love with your best friend was something I always dreamed of, and it happened. Until this day, we both talk about February 28th like it's a national holiday because it was the start of a beautiful journey together. Story written by Barbie

The Proposal

December 4, 2021

Our proposal was a bit…Enchanted, as you could say. I planned to propose to the love of my life, Barbie, on the date and month we first met, February 28th. However, our sixth dating anniversary was right around the corner, and I had the ring hidden in my closet, contemplating on how I’d propose. A couple weeks before the thought of proposing, I saw an ad on Facebook, Enchanted Christmas D.C was in town at Nationals Park and decided it would be a fun time to celebrate our sixth dating anniversary and bring in the holiday season. A couple nights before our anniversary, I came to realization I wanted to propose to Barbie at Enchant Christmas since it was such a beautiful scenery and during her favorite time of the year, Christmas. Barbie and I spent the morning of doing a mini-Christmas photo shoot in some cute, cozy plaid flannel pajamas at my apartment. Upon getting dressed to go to dinner before Enchanted D.C, when she was in the bathroom putting on her makeup, I quietly snuck the ring into my jacket pocket without her knowing. Later that day, we enjoyed a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Sakura, and then after drove to Enchant Christmas at the Washington Nationals Park. Nervous as ever, I kept the engagement ring in my pocket, waiting for the perfect moment to propose to the love of my life. After several walks around the maze of beautiful Christmas trees and lights, I searched for the perfect moment to propose. As we continued walking, I noticed from a distance an enormous Diamond Ring light statue, which I had no intention of it being there. Both of us wanted a picture under the diamond ring, so we quickly got in line to take a photo together. As we waited in line, Barbie said, “This would be the perfect place to propose to someone!” Nervously, I looked back and said, “yes that would be so cool if someone did” as now I knew this was definitely my chance to shine. As we approached next in line, I was searching for some photographers to see if anyone could capture the biggest moment in my life. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any around but then I spotted a couple who were in line behind us. I turned around and asked the lady politely “Can you please take a picture of us?” and she said “Yes, of course!” As Barbie went ahead to stand under the diamond ring before me, I whispered to the lady, “I am about to propose” and luckily, she understood the assignment and said “OMG, I will take a video” and I thanked her. As I put our cups of warm hot chocolates on the side to pose for the photo, I turned to Barbie and whispered to her “Can I ask you a question?” Without realizing I was about to propose, she quickly whispered under her breath "No" as she just wanted to hurry up and get the picture since she knew other people were waiting. I took it upon myself and turned to her side, got down on one knee, teary eyed as ever and proposed to Barbie with the spotlight on us. I asked her, “Will you marry me?” in such nervousness, I became speechless after asking her. I showed her the stunning diamond cut ring that I was dying to give her since I picked it out. I knew she was going to scream YES with no hesitation and when I heard her saying it, my heart felt so warm inside. So filled with emotions running through her, Barbie was jaw dropped as she had no idea the best night of our life was here to come. After Barbie said yes, she was so stunned by the ring and the audience applauses, waiting for me to slide the ring on her left-ring finger. It happened so fast but it was perfect in every way. Afterwards, Barbie immediately began to call her family and friends to tell them the exciting news of the proposal! December 4th, 2021 will truly be one of the best days of my life as I got to propose to my future wife. Story written by Justin
