How It Started

Alex and I both attended UW-Whitewater and majored in Supply Chain and Operations Management. With less than 100 students in this department, it is ironic that we did not meet until our Senior Year. Alex and I first met in September of 2017, with never having any interaction or class together in our small program at our small university. We started off as classmates and then became teammates as we participated in case-study competitions together. As time went on we became closer and finally acknowledged ourselves to be each others best friend and later more than that. We spent every moment together - whether it was studying, hanging out with mutual friends, going on walks or trying out new restaurants. Before we knew that we had any romantic feelings for one another, we knew that we were each other's favorite person. After several dates and a few months of being inseparable, we finally started dating on February 19th, 2018.

The Proposal

December 11th, 2020 was a chilly evening with high winds and pouring rain. Alex had made reservations at our favorite restaurant, Dan Dans, and planned for us to go for a walk through the Christmas lights after. When I began questioning our decision to go for a walk in the cold rain, Alex enticed me further by saying that we were going to see Star Wars themed Christmas lights (this was a lie). With the excitement of witnessing a display of Star Wars appreciation, we began our walk through Pere Marquette Park. The Christmas lights were beautiful and there was music ringing. Alex led us to a pavilion on the Milwaukee river where I noticed a woman wearing a mask and a large parka creeping toward us. I panicked and told Alex that I was worried about this woman. Alex frantically took off his hat, threw the umbrella on the ground and quickly got on one knee. In pure shock, I could not maintain composure and forgot how to speak. I eventually regained my voice, said “yes” and we were engaged! P.s the woman in the parka was our friend, Alison, who was recording this moment.

The Venue

The Milwaukee County Historical Society

We are so excited to host our wedding ceremony and reception at the Milwaukee County Historical Society (MCHS)! This location is extra special to us because it sits in Pere Marquette Park, which was where Alex proposed. The MCHS was founded in 1935 and was initially known as “Brewer Bank” because major breweries, such as Pabst, were board members. We will be married in front of an original bank vault, hence our wedding hashtag #BankingOnJohnson. We are eager to share this unique environment with our friends and family on our special day!
