Traditionally, the purpose of Jaggo was to announce the upcoming wedding to the entire village. Family members would walk through the streets singing and dancing, carrying beautifully decorated copper pots to invite neighbors to join in the celebration.
Today, Jaggo symbolizes the awakening of joy, prosperity, and festive energy within the family. The Baraat marks the groom’s ceremonial arrival, accompanied by family and friends in a spirited procession filled with music, dancing, and celebration. It is a moment of great excitement, symbolizing the union of two families and the beginning of the sacred wedding rites.

The Milni is a heartfelt moment in which the two families formally meet at the entrance of the venue.
Male relatives from both sides — including fathers, uncles, and brothers — exchange floral garlands and, on occasion, gifts. This meaningful gesture symbolizes the union of the two families and the joining of their lineages in harmony and mutual respect.

The Anand Karaj is the sacred Sikh wedding ceremony, centered on spiritual union and divine blessing. The ceremony includes the singing of sacred hymns, followed by the Laavan, the spiritual core of the marriage. During the Laavan, the couple walks four times around the Guru Granth Sahib while the four wedding hymns are recited.
Temple Protocol As a sign of reverence: • All guests must cover their heads before entering the prayer hall. • Shoes must be removed prior to entry. • Women are required to wear a dupatta (scarf). • Men must wear a head covering, such as a scarf or turban. Seating Arrangement Traditionally, men and women are seated on opposite sides of the aisle, sitting on the carpeted floor within the prayer hall. Dress Code – Conservative & Respectful The attire for the Anand Karaj should be more modest and refined than for the previous celebrations. Ladies’ Attire Ideal choices include a Salwar Kameez or an Anarkali (long dresses that fully cover the legs and allow comfortable seating in the temple). Kindly avoid short skirts, deep necklines, bare shoulders, or overly fitted clothing. Gentlemen’s Attire A traditional Kurta Pajama is the most common and respectful choice. A formal Western suit or a Sherwani is also appropriate. Shorts are not permitted.
