How We Met

Bulldog Bash 2016

Boy meets girl at a party and thinks "she is cute." Both proceed to sit together at the game the next day and talk. He thinks she just really likes football and wasn't just trying to talk to him. Occasionally they bump into one another over the next few months, but nothing moves forward. Finally, she asks him to a sorority function and another one and another one. He gets the hint and the rest is history. Boy continues to try and convince people he has game and pursued her.

Katherine: "One of my sister and I's favorite activities is to walk at a park with my parent's dog, Hazel, taking her for strolls and just getting out of the house, particularly during quarantine. So when my sister nonchalantly suggested going that day with my mom, I thought nothing of it. The weather was superb, and we took a leisurely pace, just catching up on things. Towards the end, I began questioning my family for dinner plans since I was closer to their home than my own when Luke texted my sister and I about having dinner together at my place. After agreeing, my sister made excuses to delay arriving at my place by a few minutes. I had no idea what was to come. I arrive at my place, again with my sister stalling before entering, to see Luke standing there with his cocktail in hand. I immediately stated I needed to grab something from my room but was stopped with Luke implying it was imperative to watch the sunset right at that moment. He led me to my porch, where it finally dawned on me what was about to happen and why Luke desperately needed a drink. While it wasn't Luke's original plan, it was still the most spectacular proposal, even if we couldn't celebrate with friends and family there. Quarantine definitely did not dampen the momentous occasion."

Luke: "I originally had a big surprise engagement party set for early April, but as that date started to get closer, I realized I had to change plans due to Covid-19. I started to talk with Kat’s sister on ways to get Kat out of her apartment for a little while. We came up with a plan and decided to implement it Friday night. I took the day off from work to run some errands and get my mind right. I went to Trader Joe’s to get champagne and flowers, and Publix to get spaghetti for dinner. While I was busy running errands, I had Maggie ask Kat if she wanted to take their dog, Hazel, on a walk at a local park later that evening. Kat didn’t seem interested at first, but Maggie was able to persuade her to go. I started to get ready for the big night. As I was getting out of the shower, Maggie texted me that she was leaving to meet Kat at the park. I started to panic as I had a lot to do before Kat came back to her apartment. I hurried to get dressed, packed up all of my party supplies, and left for Kat’s apartment. After I arrived, I cleaned off her porch and began to set the stage for my big question. I decorated a small table with a candle, roses, a picture of us, and the ring. This took a lot longer than I had expected. Maggie kept giving me updates on their arrival as I hurried to get ready. I probably finished setting up with 2 or 3 minutes to spare. Perfect timing on my part. I had just enough time to pour a whiskey and ginger ale. The nerves began to kick in and then I heard the door open. I greeted her and rushed her out to see the sunset on the porch. I got down on one knee and the rest is history. Maggie was even able to capture the moment with a friend’s camera from the street. It was a great night even without friends and family present, but we look forward to celebrating at the wedding next April."
