We met through mutual friends at a screening party in LA. We didn't think much of it, we barely spoke to each other that night. Months later we would continue to bump into each other at different friends' parties and gatherings and slowly got to know each other more. We became good friends but it wasn't until October of 2019 when we realized this could be something more.

We were staying with Darion (Jonathan's sister) when they came up with a plan for the proposal. Darion took Lauren to get her nails done a few days prior, saying she had a work banquet we would all attend. A few days later, we went to the Texas A&M campus where Lauren thought the banquet would be held. We all walked through the campus and turned the corner to find a beautiful tree called the Century Tree. Darion stayed behind (secretly filming the entire thing) while we walked under the tree and Jonathan began explaining the tradition of the Century Tree. The tradition goes that if you walk under the tree with your partner, one day you'll get married to that person. He got down on one knee and continued explaining that if you propose under the tree, you'll be married forever.
