How We Met

We first met at Western Carolina University in the Masters of Business Program. Luck would have it; we were assigned to the same group in our very first class. As we became more acquainted, I would often make fun of Greek life and how it was this or that. I quickly learned that was a mistake because she was a sorority president, unbeknownst to me. She would later get her revenge by asking me to be her group member again in front of a dozen classmates. I, of course, said yes immediately. Our weekends were filled with what seemed like endless studying with the occasional Harry Potter movie marathon. In the middle of one study session, we were both craving pizza. One of Sam's favorite saying about me is that "I live under a rock," and her being the adventurous type, she made me get in the car and said, "we are leaving now." After what seemed like forever (because it was) to get the right timing, I finally asked her out on a proper date. Our first date took place at New Belgium Brewing. After some beers, we grabbed a sandwich from the local grilled cheese food truck. We learned a lesson that day. It's best not to have a sandwich called Heart Attack in the middle of summer. Throughout the years, we bonded over our love of breweries. Some of our best memories together are our trips to Sierra Nevada's Oktoberfest. From dressing up in full German attire, playing keg bowling, dancing on tables, to saying "I Love You" to each other for the first time. It's no secret that I am not the best at keeping them. I wanted the proposal to be something special. While planning over and over the where, when, and how, the perfect location came to mind. What better place than where it all began, New Belgium Brewery. I surprised her that we were a select few for a private dinner and tasting party. I had New Belgium send me an official letter to disguise the event, but she saw right through that. I did, however, surprise her with a private dinner on the balcony overlooking the river.

For all the days along the way
