How We Met

From first grade to fiance to spouse

Jake and Bailey go way back. All the way to first grade at Summit Elementary School 21 years ago. In Miss Linz's classroom, Jake laid eyes on Bailey and never really forgot about her. Both continued their education through the Forest Hills School District, never really crossing paths, though Jake remembers fondly seeing her at Turpin High School during junior or senior year. As freshmen in college, they both officially reconnected through a mutual friend, adding each other on Snapchat, where their relationship would remain for six long years. Though both showed interest from time to time, they kept one another squarely in the friend zone. Eventually, Jake deleted his Snapchat, cutting the connection. Bailey was heartbroken, but didn't know why, as they were just friends still. One fateful day in September 2022, Jake notified her once again through Snapchat apologizing for his absence. He said he missed conversing with Bailey. From there, they finally drew up plans to meet each other in person after many previous failed attempts (including his brother's wedding back in 2020). The day finally came. October 7, 2022. Bailey heard a knock at her door. She opened the door, saw Jake and thought, "F&$@! This is it for me." They then spent the weekend together, going to a pumpkin patch and enjoying each other's company. Jake soon left, but they quickly knew they wanted to be more than friends. The next weekend he came back down to Louisville and they made their relationship official. Though they say their anniversary is October 8, it's really October 12. But who's counting?

Our Engagement!

Alexa, play Invisible String by Taylor Swift.

Jake and Bailey knew early on that they wanted to be together forever, and Bailey knew she wanted to be part of the ring design process. A little after a year of dating, they went to Monmouth Jewelers in Newport, KY, to customize a ring that fit their personalities. Because of this, Bailey knew Jake would be eager to propose once the ring was in his hands. In fact, he showed the box to Bailey multiple times, teasing her. Finally, on a snowy night two days after Valentine's Day, they had drinks at their favorite rooftop restaurant while watching the last snow of the season fall. (which coincidentally was in their apartment building). Jake glanced over at Bailey as they watched flakes fall around the Cincinnati skyline. With his eyes welling up, he said, "It just feels right, doesn't it?" Bailey nodded, and Jake finally rushed down to their apartment to get that box she'd been hoping to receive. They quickly ordered a bottle of champagne and made their way upstairs to the secluded resident-only rooftop. Jake conveniently placed his phone down (as Bailey hoped to have this moment memorialized), and while she knew what was coming, the moment was no less special. On bended knee, he asked her to marry him. And she said "yes." They have both since described this moment as a Hallmark movie scene.
