5 years together, settling into their new life on Vancouver island, Bailey and Vibeke had a summer road trip planned through Bellingham and Interior B.C. During the ferry ride from Vancouver Island to the mainland, which happened to be the 5th anniversary since they started dating, Vibeke had her suspicions and asked if Bailey would be proposing this trip. She had known they would be visiting both of their parents later in the trip, and as they both enthusiastically talked about marriage before; this would be an opportune moment. Mr DIY, Bailey had been working with his silversmithing skills to create an engagement ring that he planned to propose with. Not wanting to spoil the surprise, he lead Vibeke to believe that he had not finished the ring, and that he would not be proposing. Despite this, Bailey DID have a hand made engagement ring in his pocket he had just finished the day before. He had been waiting for the perfect moment to ask Vibeke the coveted question, but 9pm on a crowded ferry would force him to wait. As they fell asleep in their Mitsubishi Delica camper van, Bailey had a sense of a task unfinished. The following morning, on a scenic beach, they enjoyed eating the last of their grapefruit before crossing the border. As Vibeke waved her hands in the Pacific Ocean bordering White Rock Beach, an opportunity presented itself… Behind her Bailey took out the Silver Moss Agate ring out of it's carrying case (which happened to be a empty floss container to prevent any suspicion). He then proceed to get down on one knee. With their hearts full and stomachs empty, they drove to the closest brunch place to celebrate their new-found engagement. The Birch Door Cafe where they talked about their dream wedding with their dream companion. A limited time drink was being served, a Lavender Mimosa. Bailey and Vibeke soaked up the long engagement to allow plenty of time to prepare/plan for their wedding. At the same time, Bailey furthered his silversmithing skills to create the final ring made of gold, moissanite accents, and Green Sapphire; Vibeke's favourite colour (see picture below).
