How we met Zachary and I met at the perfect time in our lives. I had recently moved out to Oregon City to live with my Aunt Loretta and Uncle Steve and of course my amazing cousin/Maid of honor Paige. I was working 2 jobs, coaching and trying to do well in school. I had nothing on my mind other then staying out of trouble, making some new friends, and enjoying the upcoming summer. One night a good friend Valentino facetimed Paige & I and asked to hang with Erik and Ziggy. “Ziggy?” He said “Yea this is my guy Ziggy, he’s back from OSU for the weekend.” And flashes the facetime call towards Zachary’s face. Dang. He was cute. His smile is really what caught my attention. So.. Paige and I went to hang out. The 5 of us laughed for hours and hours. Zach was even cuter in person. And he had the best laugh to go with that smile. I had a feeling he was really special, but little did I know that I had met my soulmate. I left without Zachs number that night and that was perfectly fine with me. I figured there was no way this amazing, athletic, funny, stunning guy would have any interest in my oversized flannel, long socks and brace-face anyway. BUT, I wanted to give friendship a try. So that’s exactly what I did. I got his number a few days later. We talked off and on for a month or so. Then we started hanging out whenever we could. It was the perfect time because we both were in a place where we only wanted friendship. Although we did end up going into a relationship, we have carried with us that friendship and laughter we felt the first day. Every day. April 2nd 2016 he asked me to be his girlfriend, and for 3 years that was my favorite day until... February 3rd 2019
It was Sunday, February 3rd 2019. We had arrived in Whistler, British Columbia the day before. As we were getting ready for our first day of skiing, I was praying that Bailey wouldn't see or say anything about the box-shaped bulge in my ski jacket, as I did not have a good excuse as to what it could be...luckily it went unnoticed. Our first trip down the mountain didn't go quite so well. It was windy and snowing, the goggles that Bailey had on just weren't doing the trick, so I offered that we walk back to our room to grab her other pair. We took the wrong run down to the village, and ended up having to walk about 10-15 extra minutes carrying our boards and heavy snow gear. Bailey was apologizing profusely the entire time, as this wasn't exactly how our vacation was expected to start out. Boy she had no clue what was coming. I had no set plan on how I was going to ask her to marry me, though not for lack of effort. I listened to alot of people suggest ways I could pop the question, but none of them hit home for me. I knew Bailey didn't want anything grand or emphatic; she wanted personal. She wanted to feel like it's just me and her, forever, a team. As we arrived back at the room we grabbed her goggles and I suggested we step out on the balcony and take a shot or two. Its 11am and we're on vacation, so why not? Our balcony had a beautiful view of the landscape, even though it was a little difficult to see as it was snowing and overcast. I had the ring; I had the spot; and I had the liquid courage to settle the butterflies in my stomach so that I could focus on the biggest moment of my life. I asked Bay if I could take a picture of her, because she just looked so amazing, standing there dressed head to toe in her snow gear, the same gear that I had taught her to snowboard in the first winter that we were together. I snapped a few pics, flipped it to video mode, set it down against my bottle of Disaranno, and headed off to bare my heart to the woman of my dreams.
