Ultimately our meeting feels like a play on fate! We met while working at the same school. He is an associate principal at the Middle School and I was a fifth grade teacher at the time (first grade teacher now). I would be lying if I said I didn’t notice his charm, witty sense of humor, or the impact he has on students daily, but he was definitely the pursuer. Fast forward two plus years and we have transformed a house into a home while traveling to cross things off our bucket lists. In many ways, Luke and I are complete opposites, however together, we are the perfect team and the most compatible pair. We bring out the best in one another. We are one another’s cheerleader and best friend all wrapped up into one. The proposal: It was early November and we were planning our next weekend getaway to Chicago. Luke and I share a love for exploring new places and trying new food. Our first stop was the Shedd Aquarium. As far as I knew, we were killing time until dinner. As Luke chatted with several of the employees I assumed he was arranging a surprise adventure (as he often does – add that to the list of things I love about him)! Little did I know he had bought out all the remaining tickets to the Penguin Experience. Again, not suspecting a thing, I was overjoyed at the opportunity to meet a REAL penguin! As the experience started to wind down Luke started to inquire more about how penguins mate. I was completely fixated on the penguin when I suddenly realized what was happening! Luke was down on one knee explaining to me that, "penguins find their best friend and mate for life.” Cue the happy tears! Everything was beautifully captured by one of the aquarium’s photographers!
