The Story of Us

Bailee and Allen met in April of 2021 on an ordinary night at Texas Roadhouse. Allen had just finished work and made a spontaneous decision to stop in for a steak and a beer, despite not being a fan of the place. Something about that night pulled him in anyway. Bailee was bartending, and when she greeted him, there was immediate chemistry. They talked throughout the evening and flirted easily as the night went on. While the steak was underwhelming, Allen would later say he had just met his future wife. When Allen left, they both realized the same thing. They had not exchanged numbers. Both of them kicked themselves for it. Allen did not have social media and never really used it, but he could not stop thinking about Bailee, especially the unique spelling of her name. Bailee with two E’s. He searched for her on LinkedIn and found her there. To reach out, he reactivated a Facebook account he had not used since high school, sent her a message with his number, and deactivated it again. Bailee texted him almost immediately. After a few days of talking, Bailee mentioned that her car battery kept dying. Allen told her he had an extra battery and offered to install it for her. What she did not know at the time was that the battery was simply an excuse to see her again. Bailee remember that Allen said that cheesecake was his favorite dessert, so to thank him, she baked her first cheesecake. She also brought him a bottle of Maker’s Mark, the same drink he had been having at the bar that night. They sat outside talking while he changed the battery, and it was clear that something special was taking shape. Weeks later, Allen admitted that he had bought the battery just to spend more time with her. He also admitted the cheesecake was not fully cooked, but he ate the cooked outer parts anyway. From there, their relationship grew naturally and beautifully. They went on dates, spent time camping, stayed up late talking, and found reasons to be together whenever they could. When Bailee mentioned wanting to move out of her place, Allen often mentioned the empty room he had and how welcome she would be there. Before long, she moved in, and it felt like this was always how things were meant to be. To this day, they still talk for hours about everything and nothing all at once. They constantly make each other laugh. They still choose each other every single day. They have shared life and made memories with each other’s families, supported one another through both good seasons and hard ones, and continue to grow together in a way that feels steady and genuine. What started as a random decision to stop for dinner became the beginning of a life they now get to share together.
