We met in January 2020—right at the start of COVID—on a dating app. We’d love to say it was love at first sight, but due to the pandemic, we had to wait four months before meeting in person. We were eager to finally meet, but it just wasn’t possible at the time. During those months, we talked every single day, bonded over the loneliness COVID brought to the world, and had countless FaceTime “dates” doing puzzles and watching movies together. By the time we finally met, it felt like we had known each other forever—though we still had those first-date butterflies. For our first date, we went out for sushi—a favorite of Erica’s—which turned out to be Kent’s very first time trying it! From there, we started spending more and more time together—visiting the Neon Museum, exploring Nelson’s Ghost Town, enjoying Lake Mead, cooking meals, and more. All of this happened during the pandemic, so we wore masks everywhere, which now makes our love story even more unique and memorable.
