Accommodations

Option 1 (recommended): Staying in Beaune is about 35 min away from the château. Beaune has the best options for lodging and things to visit. Beaune truly captures the charm of the region. There are many ranging hotels and rentals available in this area. Grab your friends or family and all decide which location fits your needs best as there is no required room block anywhere. Option 2: Dijon which is about 45min away from the wedding venue. One of the largest cities in the region but also the furthest away. Option 3: If you prefer to stay close to the venue (it is a VERY small town) we recommend looking at Bed & Breakfast options or local rentals. You will need to look in the city of Charette-Varennes. Please note that options are very limited as this is not a town that attracts large groups of tourists. We want our guests to stay where they are most comfortable and can expand on their experience while visiting France. Venue Address for Reference: 2 rue de Bourgogne, 71270 Charette-Varennes, France Area of France for Reference: Burgundy / La Bourgogne within the Franche-Comté region

Airport Information

OPTION 1: The closest airport is Lyon–Saint Exupéry (LYS) - guests can fly in here and take the train (1hr) or rent a car (1hr30min drive) OPTION 2: Fly into Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Orly (ORY) - from here take TGV-InOui from Paris to Beaune. OPTION 3: Geneva (GVA), Basel or Dole - are other options to consider if it better aligns with your travel plans.

Train

Train Details

When looking at booking a train we have found the easiest way it to download the "SNCF Connect" app on your phone, switch it to english and book your train through the app. We have linked the official SNCF website here as well. As a reminder: Trains are often delayed. Whether construction, mechanical issues, or labor strikes. Strikes are a French classic. When taking trains, it is best if you are able to carry all of your luggage up and down stairs as well as in and out of the train car efficiently.

Travel Note

Rental Car Details

We do highly recommend renting a car since Burgundy is made up of many small towns, best way to feel their charm is to drive through the countryside and explore them. If you plan to stay in Beaune for the weekend, please plan a taxi ahead or use a rental car to attend events. The château is about 35 minutes away from Beaune city center. We will have organized taxis after the wedding for guests to get home. While you are responsible for the fare, we will be paying the taxis to be available exclusively to our guests as you walk out of the reception.

Important Passport Details

Before traveling to France, please check your passport’s expiration date carefully. Although the official requirement is that your U.S. passport be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the EU, many airlines and border officials enforce a six-month (or more) validity rule as a precaution. From personal experience and to avoid any issues, it is best to renew your passport if it expires within six months of your planned return date. This rule applies not just to France but also to neighboring countries. Please plan accordingly if you are looking to travel elsewhere before/after.

Travel Visa Details

As of July 2025 there is no need for U.S. citizens to get a visa to enter France but this is subject to change. We will help keep an eye on things and notify guests if anything changes.
