In 7th period of the first day of their freshman year of high school, Joshua sat at the desk across from Azucena. After his lame attempts at flirting, she was hooked. Once Azucena followed Joshua on Instagram, he was able to work his magic. They got to know each other over the year by sharing lunch on the wall underneath the tree in the courtyard of the high school. After Joshua was a chambelan in Azucena's quinceañera, they began dating on August 4th, 2017.

Azucena and I had discussed marriage and we knew it was something in our future. However, this made planning a surprise proposal difficult. I wanted the proposal to be a surprise and special night for the both of us. After purchasing the ring, I still had no idea how I would propose. Then, while researching possible wedding venues, I stumbled upon the Sweetwater Branch Inn. The Inn offered a Romantic Dinner for Two, the perfect set-up for a wonderful evening. Now, all I needed was a good excuse to take Azucena out for a fancy, romantic dinner. My birthday presented the perfect opportunity! For my birthday dinner, I took Azucena to the Sweetwater Branch Inn and had dinner. Before concluding our dinner with dessert, the waitress suggested we go for a walk (she was in on it). We strolled into the Inn's garden, where I then told her to close her eyes before I walked her in front of the MARRY ME letters I had set up prior to our dinner. She opened her eyes and turned around to me on a knee asking her to marry me. She of course said YES! And now we are happily engaged and looking forward to getting married on June 18th!
