Holiday season was ending and we wanted to spend some time with each other on a mini vacation. Ollie took us to Hartsel, CO for a cute airbnb trip in the mountains with Kita our sweet pittie. We made it there on my birthday and celebrated with a nice meal and made a plan for the next day. He found us a cute little hiking location a little ways away from the cabin. The weather was beautiful no new snow and warm enough to be comfortable in some snow gear and take on the trails. We got out and assessed the area and walked along the path to a cute little area with aspen trees and decided to take some photos. Ollie set up his phone on video so we could screenshot for the perfect image. We got set for a few poses and he told me to go check the camera and as soon as I started walking to the phone I heard him call to me. I turned around and he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I froze in shock and he asked me again and I said yes and nearly knocked him over rushing to him to embrace him. It was such a beautiful day and I was so excited for our next chapter.

Well I had the ring for 3-4 months prior. I had it all planned out to go hangout at an Airbnb for her “birthday getaway.” She already gets spoiled for her birthday so I had full intentions to use this as a way to sneak in a proposal. The real challenge…. Hiding a big fat rock from someone that knows every inch of me. I didn’t know if my pockets bulge or my jacket bulged. I assumed she wouldn’t notice either way but keeping a secret from my one true love was super hard. I didn’t want to do it in the Airbnb so I had to wait for the perfect day for us to go on a hike. It wasn’t that cold that day but in fear of her finding it I made every reason for us to wear multiple layers. As we get ready for our walk it was about a mile and a half of huffing and puffing until it hit me. There was a perfect patch of aspen trees that are my favorite and the snow glittered and glistened untouched by anything in this world. In my head I thought this is a perfect place for my wife to be. So I tell my wife let’s take some cute pictures here and I will record it so we don’t have to go back and forth. So we set up and I am as nervous as can be thinking “does she know, has she caught on yet?” But nevertheless I take the cute photos and tell her to go check the phone. As she walks away in her cute marshmallow jumpsuit I tell myself “this is it, this is the moment.” I got down on one knee and said, “Hunny bunny, hunny bunny, will you marry me?” She was startled and said “OH” and froze. I asked again just to make sure I heard her right and she said “yes” gave me a big hug and kiss. Kita jumped for joy and we frolicked back to the truck and enjoyed the rest of our weekend as newly engaged.
