Is there a dress code?

While there are several different types of Indian outfits to choose from, we certainly do not expect guests to wear Indian attire. We just recommend wearing anything bright and fun.

If I want to wear Indian clothes but have little to no experience, how do I make that happen?

Answer

Again, no one is remotely required or expected to wear Indian clothes. If you want to, you can do it in a fun and affordable way! General Outline: Friday morning Indian Wedding Ceremony: semi formal/ornate Friday evening Sangeet: semi formal fun/colorful Women: Friday morning wedding styles: Lehengas, pre-stitched sarees, Anarkali, indo-western. Often the websites may have a “ceremony” category Friday morning wedding colors: avoid red, avoid black Relatively more formal/decorated/ornate Friday evening sangeet styles: lehengas, Anarkali, “sangeet” or “reception” category on a website, indo-western. Friday evening sangeet colors: very colorful Relatively more fun and colorful, less ornate, more sparkle Avoid black Men: Friday morning wedding styles: Kurta +/- jacket or vest Friday morning wedding colors: avoid red, black Relatively more ornate/decorated/formal Friday evening sangeet styles: Kurta, can have jacket or vest, often just kurta Friday evening sangeet colors: very colorful Relatively more fun and colorful, less ornate, more sparkle There are websites you can order from and spend several hundred to thousands of dollars. Please do not feel obligated to spend nearly that much, there are very budget-friendly options. If you wanted to limit yourself to one single event for Indian clothes, you might start with the Friday morning wedding ceremony. You could then wear a colorful western outfit for Friday evening sangeet, or re-wear that Indian-style outfit Friday evening.
