Mateo and I knew each through different retreats at Youth for Christ, where our connection began as friends. However, it wasn’t until our friends Carmen and Peter’s wedding in Cancun last year that our relationship took an unexpected turn. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Cancun, we found ourselves drawn to each other’s presence. As we shared laughter, dreams, and dance moves, it became evident that something was taking place. That night marked the beginning of a deep and enduring love, one that continues to flourish as we embark on this incredible journey together.

My best friend Carmen took me out for breakfast and later guided me to see the cross at Kerrville. At that moment, I believed Mateo was out enjoying a day of fishing, completely unaware of the plan he was orchestrating. As Carmen and I stood before the cross, taking in its serene beauty and taking pictures, I turned around to find Mateo standing there, his eyes filled with love and nervous anticipation. With a heartfelt speech, he got down on one knee and presented a glistening ring, asking for my hand in marriage. My heart skipped a beat, and without hesitation, I said "Yes!" It was a day filled with unexpected joy and love, as Mateo had turned a simple outing into a memory etched in our hearts forever, marking the beginning of our journey towards a lifetime together.
