Our Love Story

Let’s just say our meeting was nothing short of divine orchestration. It all started in November 2021, in a mall in Ukraine. Funny enough, I had heard so much about him even before we met—apparently, he was quite popular. But the universe finally conspired to cross our paths. I was racing against time, trying to complete a pathomorphology task due the next morning at 8 a.m. The teacher had conveniently sent the task at 6:30 p.m., and I needed a drawing book to get it done. So, off to the mall I went. There I was, completely focused on my mission, when this “stranger” walked up to me, full of confidence. We exchanged a brief introduction, and as soon as he left the aisle, I took to my heels. But it seems I made quite an impression, because a short while later, I got a message from him on Instagram. Apparently, he had been searching for both my number and Instagram handle. Impressive persistence, right? Fast forward to December 2021, we went on our first date. Truth be told, I wasn’t very responsive after that, and we didn’t talk much. But one thing that stuck with me from our first meeting was when he boldly declared, “You’re my wife.” I laughed it off, thinking, Well then, go find your wife somewhere else! He was a year ahead of me in medical school, and life went on until February 14th, 2022. That Valentine’s Day, he asked me out on a proper date. We had a long conversation, and by the 17th of February, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Little did we know our relationship would be immediately tested. Barely a week into dating, the war in Ukraine broke out, and we found ourselves fleeing the country through the Slovakian border-on his birthday, February 26th, 2022. As president of the Nigerian Student Union in our city, he was instrumental in ensuring many students safely exited Ukraine, including me. Once we crossed the border, life took an unexpected turn. My friend and I were separated due to the Ghanaian authorities’ decisions, and we were sheltered by a kind family in Sala, Slovakia. From there, my fiancé and I embarked on quite an adventure across Europe—visiting places like the Czech Republic, Hungary, Munich, Berlin, Paris, and eventually back to Ukraine before attending the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022. Throughout those challenging yet adventurous months, his true character shone through. He was responsible, intentional, focused, and incredibly visionary. I realized he wasn’t just a good partner; he was the best partner I could ever have hoped for. From the very beginning, he never wavered in his intentions. On July 17th, 2024, he made it official and proposed—and without a doubt, I said the most resounding “YES” of my life. And here we are today, about to celebrate this beautiful journey with our family, friends, and loved ones. Cheers to a lifetime of love, friendship, blessings, laughter, and God’s abundant grace.
