We met at a welcome barbecue at the beginning of my first year in medical school (Max's second). We spent the next few months pretty much only talking about school, study tips, etc. until...
Max took a half-court shot worthy of another notable Davidson College alum, Stephen Curry, and asked me out on a date for Valentine's Day. It was a bold move but it worked. We went to Taste in the Central West End and sat there talking for so long the waiter had to kick us out at closing time. The rest is history.
I spent a while trying to figure out the best way to propose (in Boston... in the winter... during a global pandemic). Finally, on December 19th, Av was home from a 24-hour shift. When she woke up in the evening, I ordered a nice dinner for us to have at home. After dinner I opened a bottle of champagne, paused the episode of Dr. G Medical Examiner that we were watching, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry me. Yes, we did end up finishing that episode of Dr. G.
