Visit Florence! It’s one of our favorite cities in the world and a place that means so much to us. Whether you’re here just for the wedding or making a longer trip out of it, there’s no shortage of incredible food, history, and views. You can’t visit Florence without seeing its most iconic landmarks: 1. The Florence Duomo – the famous cathedral 2. Ponte Vecchio – the historic bridge lined with shops 3. Uffizi Gallery – home to masterpieces by Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci 4. Accademia Gallery – where you’ll find Michelangelo’s David 5. Piazzale Michelangelo – trust us, go for sunset Food & Drink: 1. La Buchetta – especially meaningful to us as it was our first date spot. Cozy, romantic, and great Tuscan food and wine. 2. Gelateria Della Passera – our favorite gelato spot and a hidden gem in the Oltrarno neighborhood, perfect while wandering the city. 3. Ristorante Mamma Gina – a classic Florentine restaurant with a warm atmosphere and traditional Tuscan dishes.
Tuscany is known for its incredible wine regions, and there are plenty of beautiful vineyards just outside Florence that are worth a visit. We recommend a few such as Marchesi Antinori, Poggio Torselli, Castello di Ama, and Badia a Coltibuono. Most vineyards require advance reservations, and they’re best enjoyed as a relaxed half-day or full-day experience soaking in the Tuscan countryside.
We also love a day trip to Siena, a beautifully preserved medieval city in the heart of Tuscany. It has a very different feel from Florence—quieter, more intimate, and incredibly charming. Spend time wandering its winding streets, visiting the stunning Piazza del Campo, and enjoying a long lunch or aperitivo while watching the city go by. It’s a great way to experience a more traditional side of Tuscany and slow down for a day.
If you’re in the mood for a little shopping, we recommend a trip to The Mall Firenze, a luxury designer outlet just outside Florence. It’s home to a wide selection of high-end Italian and international brands, often at reduced prices, set in a modern, open-air complex in the Tuscan countryside. It’s an easy half-day trip and a great option if you want a break from sightseeing or are looking for something special to bring home.
If you plan to stay longer in the area, we highly recommend visiting Cinque Terre—a collection of five colorful villages perched along the Italian Riviera. It’s one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Italy and makes for an unforgettable trip. Spend your time hopping between towns, relaxing by the water, or grabbing a seaside lunch with incredible views. If you’re up for it, you can hike between villages or take the train for an easier option. It’s the perfect mix of scenic, relaxed, and quintessentially Italian.
