FAQs

Question

How many events am I expected to attend?

Answer

Punjabi weddings usually span several days. While we’d love to see you at everything, the "main" events are usually the Sangeet/Jaggo, the Anand Karaj (Ceremony), and the Reception. We can understand that if you cannot make it to all events, and appreciate any time we can get with you during this time. Check your specific invitation for the timeline!

Question

What is the "Anand Karaj"?

Answer

This is the Sikh marriage ceremony, which translates to "Blissful Union." It takes place in a Gurdwara (Sikh temple). It is a sacred, meditative, and beautiful service centered around the Guru Granth Sahib (holy scripture).

Question

Are there specific rules for the Gurdwara?

Answer

Yes, out of respect, there are a few "musts": Remove your shoes: There will be a designated area to leave them. Cover your head: Everyone (regardless of gender) must cover their head. We will provide scarves (rumals), but feel free to bring your own pashmina or headscarf. The Floor Factor: Guests sit on the floor during the ceremony. If you have a physical limitation that makes this difficult, let us know. No Tobacco/Alcohol: These are strictly prohibited on Gurdwara premises.
